Beautiful Playa Blanca is on the Island of BarĂº, set in the Caribbean Ocean just off the coast of Cartagena. The island is still very rural today and is a paradise of green vegetation, bright turquoise water, and clean, white sand. There is a small town toward the center of the island and small houses and family farms scattered throughout. The island is entirely populated by African slave descendants, who eke out a living through subsistence farming and tourism to the island. As of this moment, there are no major hotels or resorts. Local families rent hammocks, tents, and primitive rooms, and cook delicious fresh fish dinners for tourists. However, this unique paradise in grave danger.International companies, with help from the Colombian government, are by any means necessary trying to buy up the land and create luxury resorts.

Great photos. I wonder who took them? You should have some really spectacular pics on the front page to show everyone how beautiful Playa Blanca is.
